That tiny amount of laser energy is enough to penetrate the skin and break down targeted structures without causing any thermal damage. Most laser systems rely on the skin’s ability to convert delivered energy into heat, which can damage the epidermis (outer layer of skin) and cause intense discomfort after the procedure. Your PICO Genesis experience

Getting ready for a PICO laser treatment is straightforward, as it is a noninvasive procedure. To get the best results and minimize discomfort, avoid excessive sun exposure and damage before the treatment. Additionally, refrain from using Retinols and Vitamin C for a week prior to your session.

The PICO laser treatment by Cutera itself is quick and painless, usually completed in less than 30 minutes. We will clean the treatment area and apply a topical numbing agent if needed. The medical-grade PICO Genesis device then emits pulses of laser energy across the targeted areas.

Some patients notice a subtle burning smell during the PICO laser treatment, which is caused by tiny facial hairs being singed by the concentrated light. While not intended for hair removal, this effect helps create a smoother overall appearance.

Recovery from PICO laser treatment is virtually painless and requires minimal downtime. You may experience slight redness or swelling immediately after the session, but these side effects typically subside within a day or two.
